Class Work/Trabajo en clase
In Math, we are shifting our focus to basic fractions (ex. recognizing fractions, vocabulary, fractions as a whole, fraction bars, etc.) However, we also keep reviewing our multiplication and division facts (fact fluency, word problems, strategies, etc.). In Spanish, we continue to focus on clothing (la ropa) and describing what we and other people are wearing in detail. We are also describing what we would wear in various situations (ex. when it's cold, when it's warm, etc.) In Social, we will be moving into a new topic next week - People and the Environment. In Science, we continue to focus and Building and Testing. This week, students started learning about structures and materials. In Wellness, we are close to wrapping up with the Buffalo and will be moving to our next topic in the Seven Sacred Teachings: Courage. In English, we continue to focus on inferring (reading) and we started our poetry unit while also finishing up mystery stories.
Dalhousie School News Updates
May the fourth be with you!
There is no school tomorrow, enjoy the long weekend!
The students have been enjoying the summer-like weather! Many classes have been taking advantage of the great weather and have been learning and working on assignments in our various outdoor learning spaces. Recess time is full of sports and other active playing. A reminder that when the sun is out and the days start to become warmer children benefit from wearing a hat and sunscreen. Hydration is also very important and students are encouraged to have a water bottle at school.
¿Que Pasa?
Our grade 5 students did a fantastic job representing our school at ¿Que Pasa? on Tuesday, May 2 at the Jubilee. Their performance was fantastic and they also did a great job demonstrating responsibility and citizenship as representatives of our school. Thank you grade 5 students for your incredible leadership and for making our school shine! We would also like to thank our wonderful grade 5 teachers, Sr. Valdebenito, Sra. Liendo, Sra. Dominguez, our and talented music teacher, Sra. Primak. Also, a huge thank you to all the parent volunteers who came out to help with supervision and backstage support. An extra special thank you goes out to Ms. Nataliia Atta who did a marvelous job as the accompanist on the piano. This event was a great example of how working together as a community benefits our students and the school! Thank you to all who contributed to this team effort!
We are very excited for the return of Alien Inline Skating! This will be starting on May 23rd for all students. More information and activity forms will be sent out next week.

FAMILY FIESTA
We are starting to get a lot of inquiries regarding donation items for our upcoming Silent Auction and Raffle to raise funds for the desperately needed new playground, which is awesome! This event will be part of our upcoming Family Fiesta, to be held on June 8th from 6 to 8 pm. For those of you who may be thinking of asking your employers to donate/donating as individuals, we have a letter with more information regarding our fundraising objective. Please do not feel like you have to make a huge donation, we will be grouping certain items together in baskets etc so really, we greatly appreciate anything!!!
Here are some examples of items that could be donated:
1. Non-perishable food items: bottle(s) of wine/sparking juices, bags of coffee/hot chocolate, pasta kits, fancy crackers/charcuterie supplies, chocolates etc. 2. Gift cards: to anywhere and everywhere! 3. Tickets to events/venues 4. Products i.e. hair/beauty/skincare supplies, tools/garage items, anything you think you would be interested in at a silent auction! 5. Gift certificates: spas, stores, extended healthcare providers, restaurants, etc. 6. Vouchers/gift certificates for services you may offer: i.e. landscaping, salon services, etc.
This list is certainly not inclusive and we will gratefully accept all donations! We are asking that items be brought to the school/arranged for pick-up by June 1st to allow us a week to prepare everything. There will be a bin to drop off donations in the office.
We are going to need a lot of volunteers to make this exciting night happen, so please take a look and sign up for a spot here
